K5
OCM's developed K5: Rustic Metal Finishes to provide an innovative, painted solution to the problems commonly associated with natural, weathering sheet metal. K5 offers a full range of PVDF paint options that replicate the appearance of naturally weathering metals, such as steel, copper, and zinc.
While rusted metal has become widely used in architecture, it comes with many dangers and risks. Rusting metals can corrode, leading to leaks. K5's PVDF coating provides lasting protection to the aluminum or steel substrate. Natural rust can drip from roofs and run down walls, staining the surrounding materials and sidewalks. With K5 there is no rust, so there is no staining.

Natural metals can also be unpredictable. Natural metals will age to a variety of colors depending on their environment and atmosphere, making it difficult to achieve the desired results. OCM can precisely replicate K5 colors and can even create custom variations, providing control and predictability. K5 Rustic Metal Finishes have been widely used in commercial, institutional, and residential building applications, including corrugated and standing-seam roofing, wall cladding, column covers, doors, ceiling panels, soffits, and window mullions. K5: Rustic Metal Finishes are processed exclusively on Old Country Millwork’s coil coating line in Los Angeles, California. They can be supplied in coil or flat sheets, both of which can be supplied with removable protective film if required.
The K5: Rustic Metal Finishes coating system is specially designed for roofing and construction projects. It offers excellent UV color stability and high resistance to chalking and fading. These finishes also provide outstanding surface hardness, which significantly enhances scratch and scuff resistance and helps minimize damage during transit and installation. K5: Rustic Metal Finishes are highly resistant to chemicals and are durable products that perform well in severe environments. An advantage of using K5: Rustic Metal Finishes over weathering steel is that it prevents rust runoff or staining on surrounding materials, including driveways and sidewalks. Using K5: Rustic Metal Finishes can also help prevent substrate corrosion and failure.:
K5: Rustic Metal Finishes are ideal for a wide variety of commercial and residential applications, including roofing, building panel, fencing, tubing, and decking. With over 20 unique styles, K5: Rustic Metal Finishes can satisfy a wide range of visual requirements. All of the K5: Rustic Metal Finishes can also be formulated with “Cool Roof” pigmentation to meet Energy Star ® Cool Roof application requirements for IR (inferred reflective) building envelope products, adding to the building’s energy efficiency.

What is Rheinzink®?
RHEINZINK® is the globally recognized trade name for a titanium zinc alloy engineered specifically for architectural applications, including roofing, facade cladding, and roof drainage systems.
Unmatched Durability and Lifespan
The alloy's primary advantage is its self-healing nature. When exposed to air and water, the zinc develops a natural, protective layer—a zinc carbonate patina. This layer provides exceptional resistance to corrosion and wear, eliminating the need for painting or maintenance.
- Roofing Applications: RHEINZINK® materials are designed to last between 100 to 120 years.
- Wall/Facade Applications: When used in vertical installations, the expected lifespan can extend between 200 to 300 years.
This material is also fully recyclable and environmentally friendly, making it a sustainable choice for landmark projects.
RHEINZINK® Materials and Composition
Stocked Inventory
OCM maintains essential inventory ready for immediate fulfillment, often saving clients significant time compared to ordering from the mill.
We stock gauges ranging from 0.7 mm (24ga)
to 1.5 mm (16ga) in the following key finishes:
- Pre-Weathered Blue Gray
- Pre-Weathered Graphite Gray
We also carry these materials with a pro-backer—a pre-applied, moisture-protective barrier coating—for enhanced protection during installation.

The Alloy's DNA
The high purity of the zinc is strategically combined with two key alloying elements to enhance its structural and aesthetic performance:
Copper (0.08 - 0.17): This element is crucial for improving the material's malleability, making it easier to form and work with. It is also responsible for introducing the subtle, natural Blue Gray and Graphite Gray colorations seen in the pre-weathered finishes.
Titanium (0.07 - 0.12): The addition of titanium significantly improves the material's tensile strength and hardness. It is vital for increasing creep resistance and stability, ensuring the long-term structural integrity of the installation.

The RHEINZINK® Finish Portfolio
The RHEINZINK® product range is available in distinct natural colors, representing different stages of the patina process:
RHEINZINK® Classic: The original, bright rolled finish that is fully developed during the course of natural weathering.
RHEINZINK® Pre-weathered Blue Gray: A finished surface that already resembles the natural patina that develops over time, providing immediate, uniform architectural color.
RHEINZINK® Pre-weathered Graphite Gray: A darker, more dramatic gray finish, also pre-weathered to deliver a mature facade appearance instantly.
Granum: RHEINZINK® also offers specialty color lines like Basalte and Sky Grey. While we may not stock these at all times, they are available to order through OCM.
