K5
OCM's developed K5: Rustic Metal Finishes to provide an innovative, painted solution to the problems commonly associated with natural, weathering sheet metal. K5 offers a full range of PVDF paint options that replicate the appearance of naturally weathering metals, such as steel, copper, and zinc.
While rusted metal has become widely used in architecture, it comes with many dangers and risks. Rusting metals can corrode, leading to leaks. K5's PVDF coating provides lasting protection to the aluminum or steel substrate. Natural rust can drip from roofs and run down walls, staining the surrounding materials and sidewalks. With K5 there is no rust, so there is no staining.

Natural metals can also be unpredictable. Natural metals will age to a variety of colors depending on their environment and atmosphere, making it difficult to achieve the desired results. OCM can precisely replicate K5 colors and can even create custom variations, providing control and predictability. K5 Rustic Metal Finishes have been widely used in commercial, institutional, and residential building applications, including corrugated and standing-seam roofing, wall cladding, column covers, doors, ceiling panels, soffits, and window mullions. K5: Rustic Metal Finishes are processed exclusively on Old Country Millwork’s coil coating line in Los Angeles, California. They can be supplied in coil or flat sheets, both of which can be supplied with removable protective film if required.
The K5: Rustic Metal Finishes coating system is specially designed for roofing and construction projects. It offers excellent UV color stability and high resistance to chalking and fading. These finishes also provide outstanding surface hardness, which significantly enhances scratch and scuff resistance and helps minimize damage during transit and installation. K5: Rustic Metal Finishes are highly resistant to chemicals and are durable products that perform well in severe environments. An advantage of using K5: Rustic Metal Finishes over weathering steel is that it prevents rust runoff or staining on surrounding materials, including driveways and sidewalks. Using K5: Rustic Metal Finishes can also help prevent substrate corrosion and failure.:
K5: Rustic Metal Finishes are ideal for a wide variety of commercial and residential applications, including roofing, building panel, fencing, tubing, and decking. With over 20 unique styles, K5: Rustic Metal Finishes can satisfy a wide range of visual requirements. All of the K5: Rustic Metal Finishes can also be formulated with “Cool Roof” pigmentation to meet Energy Star ® Cool Roof application requirements for IR (inferred reflective) building envelope products, adding to the building’s energy efficiency.
K5
OCM introduces K5: Rustic Metal Finishes as a cutting-edge, painted alternative to the difficulties of working with natural, weathering sheet metal. This complete line of PVDF paint options meticulously replicates the sought-after look of naturally aged metals like copper, zinc, and steel. K5 provides a superior solution by eliminating the risks of natural rust, which can cause corrosion, leaks, and unsightly staining on surrounding materials and sidewalks from rust run-off.
The K5 PVDF coating offers lasting protection to the aluminum or steel substrate, ensuring material integrity and durability. Unlike natural metals, whose aging process is often unpredictable and highly dependent on environmental factors, OCM offers precise replication of K5 colors and the ability to create custom variations, giving architects full control and predictability. Beyond aesthetics, K5 boasts excellent UV color stability, high resistance to fading and chalking, and exceptional surface hardness for minimizing scratches and scuffs during installation.
These finishes can also be formulated with “Cool Roof” pigments to enhance energy efficiency. K5 finishes are manufactured exclusively at Old Country Millwork’s coil coating line in Los Angeles, California, and are suitable for a wide range of commercial, institutional, and residential applications, including roofing, wall panels, and architectural accents. They are available in both coil and flat sheets, with over 20 unique styles to choose from.
TimberMet
The TimberMet line from OCM features distinctive woodgrain print patterns. Customers can select from a variety of existing color options for each print or work with OCM to develop an entirely custom color for the pattern. Physical samples are readily available upon request.
ORE
OCM developed ORE to serve as a durable, budget-friendly, and long-lasting alternative to expensive natural metals that are prone to unpredictable tarnishing and discoloration. ORE is guaranteed not to tarnish, discolor, or rust, making it the ideal choice for creating clean, sophisticated metal architecture. It successfully replaces traditional metals such as brass, zinc, copper, stainless steel, and anodized aluminum, and can be supplied on aluminum or steel in a diverse selection of colors and glosses.
Lux Ore
Midnight
The Midnight series comprises unique PVDF finishes designed to offer the appearance of blackened steel and other dark, aged metals. This series is perfect for projects requiring a weathered, intense aesthetic without the warm tones usually associated with rusting steel.
Standard Colors
All standard finish options are available on a wide selection of zincalume (18ga–30ga) and aluminum (.014–.063) gauges. These coatings use Durapon 70 PVDF (a minimum 70% Hylar 5000 resin) for best-in-class color retention and performance. The Durapon 70 system is noted for being both harder and more flexible than standard premium PVDF coatings, resulting in a surface that is highly resistant to marring, scratching during installation, and transit damage, all while providing the necessary flexibility for the most demanding post-forming operations. The use of Cool Roof pigments helps deflect UV rays, which lessens the heat island effect and promotes energy savings.
Prior to painting, all metal is pretreated according to manufacturer guidelines to ensure proper adhesion of the primer. The film thickness specifications are:
Primer (0.2–0.3 mil)
Top Coat (0.7–0.8 mil)
Backer (Primer 0.2–0.3 mils and top coat 0.3–0.4 mil)
Every standard color is backed by a robust
40-year warranty against chalking, fading, cracking, and peeling.
