Painting (Coil Coating)

Coil coating is the highly controlled process that allows for superior application of paint to metal. The process is designed for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental responsibility, all while delivering long-lasting performance.

Preparation: The metal is first routed through a cleaning station to completely remove surface contaminants and oils. It then receives a pretreatment to provide corrosion protection and create a molecular bond between the metal substrate and the paint layers.

Application & Curing: OCM typically applies a primer to ensure optimal paint adhesion and color consistency. The top coats are then applied over the primer, with each layer baked in separate ovens to achieve a full cure.

Environmental Control: OCM’s advanced control system minimizes environmental impact. By using rollers instead of sprayers, the paint is never airborne, which significantly reduces pollution and waste.

Paint Systems

SMP Colors

• Performance: A modified polyester for superior performance and color retention compared to conventional Polyester.

• Value: Represents a mid-range option, offering better performance than polyester at a lower price than PVDF.

• Warranty: Includes a 40-year warranty (with more allowable fade than PVDF).

• Durability: Offers a harder finish than PVDF for improved scratch resistance.

• Applications: Suitable for roofing, wall panels, rain gutters, and roll-up doors.



• Options: Full range of colors and glosses, including bright and high-gloss options.

Polyester Colors

• Warranty: Comes with a 10-year warranty against color fade, chalk, crack, and peel.

• Cost & Durability: A lower cost option with a hard finish that provides superior scratch and abrasion resistance.

• Applications: Great for interior applications such as ceilings, as well as exterior uses like rain gutters, signage, and garage doors.

• Options: Full range of colors and glosses, including bright and high-gloss options.

Slitting

OCM operates two slitting lines to cut wide coils into custom, narrower coils. This process can be performed before or after painting.

Slitting wide coils after painting is a highly efficient process that provides cost savings while delivering narrow strips to customers, ready for their production line. When slitting before painting, OCM can repurpose side-cuts to minimize scrap.

Embossing

OCM can apply a deep, 3-dimensional texture to bare or painted coils. The coil passes through heavy-duty engraved rollers that create the impression in the metal without damaging the paint. This capability allows you to combine the durability of metal with the textures of other materials like wood and stucco.

Level Line

OCM uses a Herr-Voss Leveler to flatten coils and accurately cut them into sheets. The leveling process removes "coil set" (the curved shape from being rolled) and light distortions in the metal , providing you with flat, even sheets for easier fabrication and a better finished product.

This line is specialized for surface-critical materials, making it perfect for handling painted coil and sensitive unpainted metals like stainless steel, copper, and zinc. OCM will cut sheets to any combination of lengths to help customers eliminate scrap and waste. Protective films and paper interleafing are also available.
